Important things to Remember While Reading The Holy Quran



Holy Quran is the last and final of all the Holy Books that were revealed over different Prophets. It was revealed on the heart of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) in 609 A.D by Angel Gabriel, after which the never-ending journey of Islam started.

The followers of the last and final truth are called Muslims. None the less, it has taught for all humanity. Not only Muslims but also Non-Muslims have been seeking guidance from the Holy Quran.



This is so because the last of all the Holy Scriptures is not only about worship but is somewhat of a guide book to the human body and the ways to interact with other humans or even animals.

However, there are rules and regulations for reading Quran, which is often forgotten. Therefore, let us revisit the guidelines which we are to keep in mind and practice when reading the Quran.

The first and principal obligatory practice that is required to be carried out is cleaning oneself before touching or reciting the Holy Quran. One has to remain clean throughout reading the Quran.

The condition of hygiene regulated for the recitation of the Holy Quran practice consists of a significant ablution called Ghusl and a minor ablution called Wudu. The mentioned ablution, however, must be carried out by doing Ghusl followed by Wudu, respectively. Ta'awwudh is essential so that Shaitan does not deviate from the path of light.


The verses of the Quran were revealed to humankind slowly and gradually. This was done so that people could get a better understanding of the teachings of the Quran. Likewise, the Quran is to be read slowly and peacefully so that the reader gets to comprehend the teachings of Islam in a better way. The Quran states:

"And those who disbelieve say, "Why was the Qur'an not revealed to him all at once?" Thus [it is] that We may strengthen through your heart. And We have spaced it distinctly." [Quran, 25: 32]

Quran has been revealed in Arabic, which is a very complex language. The smallest of change in the pronunciation of an Arabic word gives rise to a completely different and out of context, meaning recite Quran. Therefore, the reader must be very cautious while pronouncing words of verses. It has to be ensured that the words are correctly pronounced. "Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation." [Quran, 73: 4]

Quran is one of the greatest blessings bestowed upon Muslims. Hence, it is advised to be read in a beautiful tone as possible. After all, this would be portrayed as an act of valuing and cherishing the Holy Scripture. "Allah has not allowed anything like He has permitted a Prophet to recite the Quran in a good voice." Guidance to Learn Quran in Daily Life



Ibn Mas’ud (May Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (May Allah exalt his mention and protect him from imperfection) stated: “Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah, he will be credited with a good deed, and a good deed becomes ten-fold reward. I do not say that Alif-Lam-Mim is one letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter, and Mim is a letter.” (At-Tirmidhi)

Abdullah bin ‘Amr bin Al-‘As (May Allah be pleased with him) stated: The Prophet (May Allah exalt his mention and protect him from imperfection) said: “The one who was devoted to the Quran will be announced on the Day of Resurrection: ‘Recite and ascend (in ranks) as you used to recite Quran when you were in the world. Your rank will be at the last Ayah you recite.'” (Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi)



No one can overlook the benefits of Quranic chapters reading. To simplify the selection of this reading and ensure that everyone can complete the Quran.

There is no specific plan for reading the Qur'an in stages.  The first chapter is the most significant as Muslims repeat it at least 17 times in their five regular prayers.

After that, a Christian reader may be curious to read chapters 3 (Surat Al-Imran, i.e., the family of Imran) & section 19 (Surat Maryam - Mary) which mention parts of the events in the life of Prophet Jesus; peace be upon him

Other readers may start by reading Chapter 6 (Surat Al-An'am), which covers common logical arguments on the existence of God.

The more substantial chapters are at the start of the Qur'an and the smaller chapters are towards the end, as they sort of review many basic concepts mentioned earlier, like for example, chapter 112 which summarizes the notion of Monotheism.

The Noble Quran as the best English translations. Because it also performs to give the meanings of the Quran verses in Arabic terms used has a dictionary of words in the back, has a little bit of tafsir in it to put verses in context better, I can't stand Yusuf Ali version but it is in high circulation. The English are off, and the explanations and commentary are horrific and are strictly his opinion.

Advice from cover-to-cover myself as it tends to tell a story over and over again, each time with another aspect different from before. I feel like one can get a better understanding of all the ideas and all the meanings and the overall line of thought of the Quran if you go from beginning to end. In the end, I guess it's up to you. You can start with the parts you're most interested in, I think.

One more piece of information. Request it as though it is Allah talking. Allah is the narrator of the Quran, not Muhammad. Puts a different spin on the words when you think of it that way.

Importance of Reciting the Holy Quran in Daily Life



The Holy Quran is a book of guidance and a sea of information for those who take motivation from it. As the word of God revealed to the Holy Prophet (pbuh&hp), it contains historical parables, jurisprudential information, ethical advice, and states that we need to instill in our lives.

While the Quran is intended to be a guide for all of humanity, regardless of creed, identity, cultural background, age, or gender, we have more potential to read from its guidance and knowledge if we purify our hearts. God states, There is no doubt that this book is a guide for the religious.



It is essential to recognize that the book of Allah is an important book we hold. It is up to us to give it the respect it deserves and thus follow the advice of the Ahl al-Bayt (pbut) when we make the aim to recite it.

It is highly advised to perform wudhu (or ablution) before reading of the Quran, as ablution cleanses our physical bodies, and makes us spiritually mindful that we are entering into an act of worship. God states, “No one can touch it except the purified ones.”

Furthermore, we should sit in the area of the Qiblah (the direction of the location of the Holy Kabah), another physical explanation that we are submitting to Allah.

When reciting Quran, we need to recognize that it contains the best and most beautiful words and thus recite it most beautifully. We should use our best voice when we are reciting the word of Allah.

We should not scream nor use a very faint voice. God states, “And recite the Quran in a distinct tone.” In a powerful narration, Imam Ali (p) advises us to, “Recite it [the Quran] clearly, and do not cut it like the cutting of hair (or do not read it like poetry), and do not spend it like the scattering of sand (or do not read it like prose). Reflect on its wonders and motivate with it your hard hearts. Never think how to finish the [Chapter] quickly.” Imam’s words make it clear to us how we should recite the Quran.

The Quran has a unique potential to allow us to fulfill our responsibilities to God and our religion. It presents us with spiritual insight and advice on how to live our lives due to the values it stresses, such as patience, generosity, and caring for others.

But as much as we read the Quran and memorize its verses, we should, more than anything else, make constant efforts to apply its teachings as Imam Ali (p) supplicates, “Oh Allah! Expand my Heart with Quran, actuate my body with Quran, enlighten my sight with Quran, liberate my tongue by Quran, and encourage me to mold my life according to Quran, so long as You make me live.

Recommended Guide to Learn and Memorize the Holy Quran.



A good or satisfactory selection is almost impossible, short of the whole Quran. Every part of it has something additional or new to say. Even the repetitive and similar passages have their insights to offer.

A limited number of passages can hold only a limited number of themes. Every syllabus will, therefore, suffer from the severe defect of omitting many more, equally or even more important, topics.



Further, any selective approach must be arbitrary and will display only the preferences of the selector, not necessarily of the Quran. These limitations are significant to bear in mind while using the programs suggested here.

Secondly, where to start to memorise Quran, and in what order to continue? The only satisfactory order can be the Quranic order itself, as revealed by Allah. But a syllabus cannot withdraw changing that order.

Any method can only be one option among many equally useful ones. You may proceed by first setting the status of the Quran as Divine, and then introducing the evidence in the universe, self, and history; faith in Allah, Akhirah, and Risalah; personal and collective morality; the goal and purpose of Muslim life; the call to Iman and Jihad, and fulfilling responsibility and pledge to Allah.

One may begin hifz Quran from the primary faith. What I have preferred here, something which maybe changed from situation to situation is to start by mentioning the readers of the blessings of Islam, their goal in life, and their pledge to Allah.

Every circle must start with a consideration of how to read and understand the Quran. For this purpose, the present book should be helpful.

A special message about Surah al-Fatihah. It holds a unique place in the Quran, including within it the whole world of its primary meanings. You read it many times every day. This should, therefore, form part of every syllabus. But a novice will need advice a good teacher or tafsir book - to derive the significant benefit from its study. Wherever such help is available, it must be covered in the syllabus, even at the cost of dropping one of the suggested passages.

Also of value are the short Surahs at the end of the whole Quran, which you read in your daily Prayers. Again, you will need help with a proper understanding. They should be studied whenever appropriate resources are available.

With each collection, Some Quranic references are also given so that you may think upon them in their light. These references, too, are by no means exhaustive, and their relevance is based on my understanding. As you proceed, fewer references are given, for it is expected that you will become more initiated and familiar by then.
